Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2015, I was working with a capital markets company as a Hedge Fund Accountant.
Why did I pursue FRM?
I decided to pursue FRM, mainly because I wanted to specialize in one particular field. Secondly, one can complete the entire course in one year if you manage to clear both the levels in the first attempt.
This is certainly not an easy exam and requires lots of hard work. I dedicated around 6-7 hours per day for two months for part 1 exam and around 7 hours per day for one and a half months for part 2. If you are currently working and do not have sufficient time to prepare, I would recommend you to start your preparation 3 months prior to the exam with 2 hours daily and around 6-7 hours on the weekends.
There are many study materials available in the market. I preferred to use Schweser to clear my concepts, PrepSmarter and GARP practice exams. PrepSmarter provides great packages to help you with your preparation. Depending on your suitability you can pick up one. The best part that I liked about PrepSmarter was that they provided a summary of your performance that helped you analyze in which topic you need to improve and focus on. I would highly recommend taking the mock tests provided by PrepSmarter to get the exam feel. And study your performance accordingly.
What’s Next for Me?
After clearing FRM, I wish to pursue a career in Risk Management, particularly in Banking Industry. I believe once you clear, many career opportunities open up to you in the field of Risk Management, Trading, Risk Advisory, Risk Analysis, Portfolio Management etc.
